n Diabetic Macular Edema: We are participating in a longitudinal clinical trial that evaluates diabetic patients with macular edema, a severe retinal complication of diabetes. This study will use the OcuSciences RMA technology to image patients before and after receiving therapy to show that RMA technology can assess dynamic changes within the retina following treatment and can be used to more rapidly assess the impact of therapies for various retinal diseases.

Diabetes: We have previously shown that diabetics with visible retinopathy have increased mitochondrial dysfunction compared to diabetics without visible retinopathy, and that both have increased mitochondrial dysfunction compared to age-matched controls. We are now repeating some of our earlier studies with an improved 2nd generation alpha-prototype. We expect even better results than in our previous studies, due to optimized optics, reduced electronic variability, and improved software analysis.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): We have recently contracted with a pharmaceutical company bringing a new therapy for AMD to market. Our RMA technology will be used in their clinical trials to assess improvements in retinal mitochondrial function induced by their therapeutic. We will be looking at mfERG and microperimetry data in comparison to our functional measure for the baseline assessment of measures.
